Minimizing losses to Phytophthora sojae in Soybeans - Robertson Lab

Phytophthora sojae causes Phytophthora root rot (PRR) on soybeans. Management of the disease traditionally includes a combination of cultural practices, genetic resistance and fungicide seed treatments; however P. sojae continues to threaten soybean production. We are assessing the diversity of this pathogen in Iowa, and are investigating the effect of race specific gene selection pressure on the diversity of the population in micro plots. In addition, we are evaluating novel and alternative disease management strategies, e.g., seed treatment fungicides in combination with partial resistance, to reduce yield losses to PRR.
