The Department of Plant Pathology is based in Bessey Hall on the ISU campus. Department researchers have at their disposal a variety of equipment and resources in this building. The fourth floor of Bessey Hall is home to a variety of molecular biology laboratories of the Department of Plant Pathology, as well as the Plant Science Institute (PSI) Center for Plant responses to Environmental Stresses (CPRES) Core Facility. The CPRES Core Facility houses several items of equipment that are commonly used by the investigators and other members of CPRES. The equipment in the facility includes: Growth chamber facilities (2) with growth chambers (35), Cold rooms (4), Growth rooms (2), Dupont Biolistic Particle Delivery System, 7' sterile hood, Laminaire 3' bench top laminar flow hood, Baker 4' laminar flow hood, Nuaire 4' laminar flow hood, Electroporator, Speed Vac, Bio-Rad gel imager, Phosphorimager, UV transilluminator(s), UV Stratalinker, Liquid nitrogen tank, 37oC floor shaker, 30oC floor shaker, Ice machines (domestic and distilled H2O), Sonicator, Perkin-Elmer Lambda 3A spectrophotometer, Hitachi spectrofluorimeter, NanoDrop® ND-1000 UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, 30oC Precision Scientific Incubator (3), 37oC Precision Scientific Incubator, Scintillation counter, Film processor, Blue-M 250oC oven, 250oC RNA drying oven, Blue-M 50oC drying oven, Drying oven, Sorvall centrifuge and rotors, Beckman LE80-k ultracentrifuge and rotors, Low speed bench top refrigerated centrifuge, Sorvall low speed centrifuge, Tomy Autoclaves, iCycler quantitative PCR machine, and Labconco lyophilizer. Furthermore, the Department has access to modern research greenhouses with associated laboratories.
