Iowa State Alum to Present First George Washington Carver Lecture

The agronomy department will host a series of three George Washington Carver Lectures over the next three weeks. The lectures will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Iowa State and honor Carver.

 Alumnus Ron Walcott, associate professor in the plant pathology department at the University of Georgia will present the first lecture Tuesday, April 22, at 3:10 p.m. in room 3140 of Agronomy Hall. His presentation is titled "Honoring the George Washington Carver Legacy Through Agricultural Research, Education and Mentoring."

 Walcott holds degrees in plant pathology from Iowa State and the University of Georgia. His research focuses on the biology, epidemiology and management of seedborne bacterial diseases in crops. Walcott was a UGA Lily Teaching Fellow in 2001-2002, and is a member of the UGA Teaching Academy. He is the faculty adviser to the UGA chapter of Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences.
